Summoning your companions
Every catch is an item. Equip it and your companion is summoned to fight at your side. Unequip it and it returns to its ball.
Two companions at once
Section titled “Two companions at once”You can have two companions out at the same time, one in each summon slot. They can even be the same species.
Both return to their balls when you log out or die, and come back the next time you equip them.
Levels and experience
Section titled “Levels and experience”- Companions earn experience by fighting and level up to a maximum of level 99.
- Level and experience are saved on each individual companion, so trading or storing one keeps its progress.
- If a companion gained levels while it was in its ball, you will see a message the next time you summon it.
Where you can’t summon
Section titled “Where you can’t summon”Some places allow only one companion, or none at all. In a gym battle, for example, you may only have one companion out. The game tells you when a rule applies.
Teaching moves
Section titled “Teaching moves”Each companion has three TM slots. Use a TM item while the right companion is summoned to teach it the move. TMs are type-locked: a Water TM can only be learned by a Water type. Gym Leaders give a TM with every badge.
