Gym Leaders
Eight Gym Leaders stand between you and the Indigo League. You face them in order: each leader only accepts challengers who hold the badge before theirs. Badges are saved per character.
How a gym battle works
Section titled “How a gym battle works”- Talk to the leader outside their gym. Some leaders ask for a favor before they will battle you.
- Enter the arena. You get a short countdown to prepare. You can ask the leader to fully heal you, start right away when you are ready, or take your time.
- Battle. The leader sends out their team one at a time. You may only have one companion out during a gym battle.
- Win before the time limit runs out to earn the badge and a TM. Lose and you are sent back to town to try again.
Only one challenger can use a gym at a time. If someone is already battling, come back in a few minutes.

Team: Geodude Lv 12, Onix Lv 14
Your first battle. No task, just talk to him in the main town and accept.
Team: Staryu Lv 18, Starmie Lv 21
Misty is on the beaches of Comodo Field, next to the fishing spot. Before she battles you, she asks you to drive off the Alligators that keep scaring away the Sea Otters. Defeat 5 Alligators, then return to her.
LT. Surge

Somewhere in the town of Geffen. He needs 2 badges and nothing else.
Team: Victreebel Lv 29, Vileplume Lv 32
Erika waits in the Payon forests and asks for flowers first:
- 1 Witherless Rose and 5 Bouquets, sold at a shop in Lutie, the land of snow.
- 1 Fancy Flower, carried by the flower monster Geographer around Einbroch.
The items are taken when you hand them in.
Team: Koffing Lv 38, Muk Lv 40, Weezing Lv 43
Koga meditates in Umbala. His test: bring the ingredients for 5 bottles of poison. You need 5 of each: Venom Canine, Cactus Needle, Bee Sting, Poison Spore, Karvodailnirol, Berserk Potion and Empty Bottle. They are taken when you hand them in.
Sabrina

She channels her power in the ruins of Juperos.
Blaine

Deep in the fiery pits of the Magma Dungeon.
Giovanni

The last leader runs underground operations for Team Rocket in Juperos. Find the Rocket guarding the entrance; once you have 7 badges, the Boss will see you.
Rematches
Section titled “Rematches”Once you hold a leader’s badge, you can challenge them again for rewards.
- Their team is 15 levels higher and noticeably stronger.
- Each gym has a 1 hour cooldown per character between rematches.
- Rewards grow with the gym number: Activity Coins, Poke Balls, a chance at Great Balls, and from gym 5 onward a chance at an Ultra Ball.
The leader shows the full reward list before you accept.
